| 25 March 09 With Abdullah and his family life is slowly are getting better. During a trip to Jordan with some friends we stayed in Abdullahs new camp "Al Thuraya Seven Stars Camp". We drove through the desert searching for Samha. She had had her baby who was now one months old. I could not wait to see her. But Samha sometimes goes on her own journeys in search of grass. She has even crossed even the border into Saudi Arabia. Then panic breaks out as Abdullah cannot just cross the border to fetch her although it used to be different for the Bedouin. But we were lucky, when we arrived at the camp mother and child waiting for us. What a wonderful sight! Aproud Abdullah stood beside them. Soon Abdullahs website will be ready and it will be possible to ask Abdullah to guide in Wadi Rum. One night in his camp, between the mountains of Wadi Rum is an amazing experience. You will encounter the hospitality of the Bedouin here. And with a little luck you also see Samha and her little family. Abdullah's website: www.althurayacamp.com |

| Jordan: 5 November 08 It was already 1 1 / 2 years since I had been to jordan and I was very curious how things were going with my good friend Abdullah, now the proud father of his 2nd daughter.I've known Abdullah for 10 years and he takes care of my 2 camels. Due to circumstances he forced away from his home in Wadi Rum about 4 years ago and lost almsot everything. This was the area of his ancestors and his tribe. For more than 4 years he stayed with his family in a completely different area and there was no prospect of employment and no hope for the future. One by one the family camels were sold to help provide for the family. He said to me "what is a Bedouin man without camel". After consulting with my family I explained to Abdullah that we would like to buy a camel, and what he thought of the idea. He could take care of it and there would also hope for the future because I promised him that if a a baby camel was born, it would be his. After a lot of thinking he thought it was a great plan. He searched for the perfect camel. The camel that he found had already had a baby of 1 year so we now had 2 camels, Samha and Alguda. Meanwhile, Abdullah and his family returned back to the village of Wadi Rum and this trip gave me the opportunity to see how things where going. They are happy to be back in their village and things are going much better for them although much has changed in the 4 years they were gone. The the greatest news was that Samha (camel mother) is pregnant again. There is now a real hope for the future! |
